Recycle Water

Instead of pouring out the water after I rinse my coffee pot, I use the water to energize my plants, both indoor, and now, outdoor! Easy, and only a few extra minutes of my day!

Dry cleaning bags

Because of my job I dry clean most of my clothes. I use the clothing bags as trash bags in my kitchen garbage can. Tie off the end that goes over the hanger and then re-use the bag instead of throwing it away. Saves money on kitchen trash bags, too.

I use smaller, lightweight and greyer fonts

I notice that a lot of my coworkers print emails for recordkeeping purposes. While that activity does use excess paper and toner, hurting the environment in a way I can't force them to change, I can do my part to help. I use the lightweight "Century Gothic" typeface in a size no larger than 10 pts. Any extra information in my emails (signatures, confidentiality clauses, etc.) are printed in an even smaller grey font because it takes less toner to produce and a small font uses less paper for long print jobs. That's my "one thing" at work.

Recycling from work at home

I work at a big, high profit restaurant. One thing that makes me angry is that there is no desire to recycle from the corporation. Each day we throw out dumpsters full of cardboard boxes, paper goods, and plastics. I can't do it all, but each day I work I take a bag of plastics such as juice containers or strawberry pints and recycle them with my weekly curbside pickup.

I only wash my clothes with cold water. Saves me time and energy!!

Hot water doesn't mean a thing, except scalding metal buttons when you switch to the dryer. the agitation in the detergent is enough to kill the bacteria and any germs living on your clothes. So i use cold water to get squeaky clean and green clothes :D

No More Paper Napkins or Paper Plates

We no longer use paper napkins, paper plates or plastic [disposable] cups, besides its much nicer eating off real dishes & glasses. Any plastic utensils that might be used in brown bag lunches are run through the dishwasher and re-used. And to go along with that the dishwasher is only run when it has a full load; saving on water, detergent and energy!

Don't liter

Save your trash and throw it away in the nearest trash can instead of out your car window or dropping it on the ground. Pick up trash if you are able and drop it in the nearest trash can. Once me and my kids were driving home and one of them threw trash out the car window I stopped the car and made them go pick it up they never did it again. I don't think they liter now as adults either at least not around me anyway.

No Dryer

We don't use a clothes dryer at home! We don't even own one anymore. We simply hang our clothes on hangers and when they dry we hang them in the closet or fold them and put them away and most time it saves on ironing too! It's great in the winter to add moisture to the air in the house.
